THE MEZZANINE AT WELDON LIBRARY, UNDER CONSTRUCTION FOR THE NEW TWO-STOREY LEARNING COMMONS (AUG. 2021)
As the first week of fall term wraps up at Western, we have a brief update to share about the Weldon Revitalization Project.
While COVID-19 delayed construction progress, we’re looking forward to reopening Weldon to students, faculty, and staff this November.
Currently, building crews are working on the ground, main, and mezzanine floors of the library, and construction is wrapping up on new staff spaces in other areas of the building. New windows are in place (with more to come!) and an upgraded HVAC system has been installed.
We’ve recently ordered the new furniture for Weldon – it’s a wide variety of tables and seat options to make our new spaces more accessible and comfortable for different user needs. Thank you to all of the students who gave us feedback on the kinds of furniture you want to have in these refreshed spaces. We can’t wait for construction to be complete so we can safely set up the new Learning Commons for your return.
Although Weldon remains closed for onsite use over for the next two months, study space and access to collections continue to be available at any of our five other library locations: Taylor, Business, Music, Law, and the Education Resource Centre. Appointments are available by request on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to access our archival materials, maps, and special collections. Please send your appointment request to archives.services@uwo.ca.
In the meantime, please come see us at one of our other library locations, or you can find research support online with our Ask a Librarian chat. You can also read our latest update on Western Libraries services and resources for the fall term.
