Spectacular! State-of-the-art! Beautiful! These are just some of the words students, faculty and staff have used in survey responses to describe the new two-storey student Learning Commons in The D.B. Weldon Library (Weldon). Since we wrapped up Phase 1 of the Weldon Revitalization, we’ve welcomed thousands of students, faculty and researchers to our refreshed spaces. The renovation has been such an overwhelming success, everyone is anxious to see what’s next.

Lockdowns, labour shortages, supply chain disruptions – you name it, we faced it. Despite all the bumps along the way, we are thrilled with the finishing touches to our stunning new two-storey Student Learning Commons.

While our crews are working hard on remaining design elements, the Learning Commons, both the main floor and mezzanine, is now open to students. Even without the finishing touches, the difference is quite striking. The space is lighter, brighter, and more open, filled with furniture you told us would make for a more productive and enjoyable study environment.

An update on the opening of Weldon’s new two-storey Learning Commons: Due to supply chain and labour shortages, the anticipated opening of this new space in January 2022, a slight delay from our original November 2021 goal.
